Can foreigners buy condos in Thailand?
The basics of foreign ownership, explained simply.
Yes. Foreigners can own a condominium unit in Thailand outright (freehold), within some clear rules. This is the most common way overseas buyers own property here.
What you can own
You can own the condo unit itself in your own name. What you cannot own directly is the land it sits on, which is why condos, rather than houses, are the usual route for foreign buyers.
The foreign quota
Up to 49% of the total floor area of a condo building can be foreign-owned. As long as the building is under that limit, a foreigner can buy. We always check the quota for a specific building before you proceed.
Bringing in the funds
Payment generally needs to come from abroad in foreign currency and be recorded properly by the receiving bank, which produces the document you need to register foreign ownership. We walk you through this step by step.
